Beth Describes A Typical Day on Fasting – Metabolism Does Not Slow

Hi this is Beth. On this video I wanted to go a little bit more in depth to address any misconceptions about the program. I wan to tell you what a day in my life is like on Brad Pilon’s diet and how easy it is.

Most people thin that not eating for 24 hours, that your metabolism should slow down. What I want to say is that it doesn’t slow down. Brad Pilon in the book says a lot about this. From my own research, I found that the metabolism will slow after 72 hours after eating your last food item. A 24 hour fast is well within that limit.

One thing that had me worried before starting this program is that my blood sugar would go crazy. I know what it’s like to get really dizzy and light headed. Eat healthy before you start the fast and you’ll be fine. This is not something I experienced on the Eat Stop Eat diet.

Working out while fasting is a great idea. It will do a lot for you if your body is working off the stored fuel which is fat. I find that I can work out at the end of the fast.

A day in my life on Eat Stop Eat is kind of normal looking. I stop eating after supper and sleep in on purpose. If I sleep in, then I don’t have time for breakfast. I don’t bring a snack for work, so no opportunity for a morning snack. For lunch, I make sure I have errands to do. In the afternoon you can have coffee, tea or diet soda. What I find really helpful is that you can have calorie free gum.

  1. You’ve answered a lot of my questions, thanks so much. I’ve heard a lot of times that the metabolism slows if you stop eating, and it made me a little skeptical of the eat stop eat diet. But at the same time, everyone these days seems to be recommending fasting. Those two ideas together weren’t making much sense as I’m sure you can imagine. Now I understand :)

  2. I also find that tea (and maybe one cookie) is a great substitute for a big breakfast or lunch. That’s probably a really effective way to cut calories out of your diet on the fasting days. The more I’ve thought about this program, the more I want to give it a try. You’ve made it seem very easy to do.

  3. Hey!I have been doing ESE for a while now and I’m wondering If you’ll keep losing weight consistantly or will you stop losing weight evenrually?

  4. I’m very glad that you make the point that, yes metabolism does slow down if you drastically cut your calorie intake but it doesn’t happen over night. In fact I’ve read that it can take even longer than the 72 hours you mention. In any case a 24 hour fast won’t do it.

I also agree that exercise while fasting can be great for some people but others may feel lightheaded if they try. People should start easy, pay attention to how they feel and use common sense.
